The West Midlands Regional Assembly is currently planning for future supplies of sand and gravel for the next decade and will make its final decision on 17th March in Lichfield.
The sands of time are running out and we need your help. Please help us take action below!
Staffordshire is campaigning for the Assembly to change the way it plans for the future so that quarrying is not vastly increased.
Sand and gravel for industry comes from quarries in the countryside. This is good for jobs and the economy - but it also has a major environmental and impact. Getting the balance right is vital.
More recycling of materials and more efficient construction should mean less pressure on quarrying in the Staffordshire countryside.
But there are forces at work that want to protect the status quo and continue to plan for the future based on more and more sand and gravel extraction. This puts real pressure on our countryside and villages.
Staffordshire is already the UK's number one sand and gravel producer and is currently required to provide 65% of the West Midlands' sand and gravel. It's simply not sustainable to ask for more.
